21+ Cricket betting is for people aged 21 and above only. Betting is entertainment — not a guaranteed way to earn.

The three formats of cricket and the most-watched tournaments

Cricket fans know — T20, ODI and Test are not just different in length; each has its own character. That difference matters in betting too.

T20 Cricket

Only 20 overs per innings — the result can still flip on the last ball. That uncertainty is what makes T20 betting lively. BPL and IPL are the biggest stages for this format.

BPL IPL T20 WC

ODI Cricket

The 50-over format moves at a slower pace but offers more room for strategy. ICC World Cup and bilateral series give ODI its own distinct feel.

ICC WC Champions Trophy

Test Cricket

In this five-day format, pitch, weather and squad depth play a major role. Alongside Match Winner, innings-based markets are also popular here.

From BPL to international matches — where betting is most active

For Bangladesh fans, BPL is not just domestic franchise cricket — it is a seasonal event. During IPL, Bangladeshi fans follow matches just as closely on the ground and on screen. sona's platform sees its highest betting activity during Bangladesh Tigers matches at the T20 World Cup.

Bilateral series are just as important alongside international matches. sona offers Match Winner, Over/Under and many other markets for all these competitions.

Football and other sports: Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at sona. In football, a draw is a separate result — unlike cricket (especially T20 and ODI) where there are only two outcomes. This changes how the markets are structured.

The most popular betting markets at sona

In cricket betting, a market means the specific thing you are betting on. Here is a simple explanation of five markets.

Match Winner

The question in this market is which team will win the match. In T20 and ODI there is no draw, so there are only two options. Example: if you think Team A will win, place your bet on Team A.

Toss Winner

This bet is settled before the match even starts. The toss is entirely down to chance — pitch conditions or team strength do not matter here. It is, however, a way to get a quick result.

Top Batsman

A bet on which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or across the whole match. Example: you think Team B's opener will score the highest runs for their side.

Total Runs Over/Under

This market is about whether runs scored will be more or less than a set number. If the pitch is batting-friendly, you can go Over; on a bowling pitch, Under.

Multi-Bet (multiple selections)

Placing bets on multiple matches or markets together on a single ticket is a multi-bet. If all selections are correct, the return is higher; if even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Wicket and Over Markets

How many wickets will fall within a specific number of overs, or which bowler will take the most wickets — these specialised markets are where cricket knowledge comes in.

Decimal, Fractional and American — odds in three formats

The same odds can be written in three different ways. The two examples below make the difference clear.

Format If Team A wins (Example 1) If Team B wins (Example 2)
Decimal 2.25 1.25
Fractional 5/4 1/4
American +125 -400
Return on ৳1,000 bet ৳2,250 (profit ৳1,250) ৳1,250 (profit ৳250)
How to read Example 1: Team A's decimal odds of 2.25 means — on a ৳1,000 bet, a win returns a total of ৳2,250 (৳1,250 profit + ৳1,000 original stake); a loss means the ৳1,000 is gone.
Example 2 — the favourite's odds: Team B at 1.25 in decimal means they are the favourite. If you see -400 in American format, it means you need to bet ৳400 to win ৳100. On a ৳1,000 bet, the total return is ৳1,250 (profit ৳250).

How multi-bet returns are calculated

Three selections — decimal odds 1.50, 1.60 and 1.90 — placed on one multi-bet ticket:

Combined odds = 1.50 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.56 (rounded)

If all three are correct on a ৳100 bet, the return is ৳456. If any one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

How a betting exchange works

On an exchange you can not only back (bet for a win) but also lay (bet against). If you BACK Team A at decimal 2.00 with ৳1,000 — Team A wins and you gain ৳1,000 minus commission; if they do not win, you lose ৳1,000. On a LAY of ৳1,000, your liability is ৳1,000; if Team A does not win, you gain ৳1,000 minus commission.

Odds change when wickets fall — how live betting works

Betting does not stop once the match starts — that is where things get interesting. Odds are recalculated after every over and every wicket. If the batting team scores 60 runs in 5 overs, the Over market odds drop; if two quick wickets fall, the batting team's win odds go up.

There is very little time to decide in live betting. In pre-match betting you can think at your own pace; in live betting you have to keep up with how the match is unfolding.

On sona's platform, odds update alongside the live score, making it easy to track every moment of the match. Live betting is even more convenient on the sona App — place bets from anywhere on mobile.

How betting on football and other sports is different

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football and a few other sports at sona. Each sport has a slightly different betting structure.

Football Betting

In football's Match Winner market there are three possible outcomes: Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. Because of this three-way structure, football odds are generally arranged differently from cricket. Handicap, Over/Under goals and both teams to score are popular football markets.

Other Sports

Sports like tennis, badminton or kabaddi have different match lengths and formats. In some sports you can bet by set or game. You can check directly in the sports section on sona to see which sports currently have live betting available.

Some practical points before you start betting

  • Set a budget before you begin. Bet with an amount you can afford to lose. Betting is entertainment — not a way to recover losses.
  • Understand one match well. Instead of placing bets across many markets at once, focus on one or two.
  • Avoid rushing in live betting. Odds change fast; watch how the match is progressing rather than making decisions on the heat of the moment.
  • Understand the risk in multi-bets. The return is higher, but one wrong selection and the whole bet is gone. Single bets are more suitable for beginners.
  • Play responsibly. Read sona's guidelines on the Responsible Gaming page — set your own limits.

Common questions about cricket betting

T20 matches end quickly and results can stay uncertain until the last ball, so odds shift more often. ODI has a slower pace and more room for innings-based markets. In Test cricket, pitch conditions and each session play a big role in betting.

Yes. In a multi-bet, every selection must win — if even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost. The return is higher, though. Example: a multi-bet with three selections at 1.50, 1.60 and 1.90 gives combined odds of 4.56, so a ৳100 bet returns ৳456 if all three are correct. For beginners, it is better to build experience with single bets first.

Odds shift quickly after a wicket falls, after a big hit or dot ball on the last delivery of an over, and at the end of a powerplay. Rain or a Duckworth-Lewis situation also brings large changes. Staying focused on these moments is important in live betting.

Multiply the decimal odds directly by your stake to get the total return. Example: Team A has odds of 2.25 and you place a ৳1,000 bet. If you win, the total return is ৳1,000 × 2.25 = ৳2,250 — that includes ৳1,250 profit and your original ৳1,000 stake. If you lose, the ৳1,000 is gone.

Match Winner is played the most in T20 format. After that, Toss Winner, First Over Runs Over/Under and Top Batsman are popular. In live betting, many also go for Powerplay Runs Over/Under and wicket markets. At sona, all these markets are available both pre-match and live.
